MIRPUR ( AJK): February 12: Supreme Court of Azad Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday accepted the appeal of former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas against his disqualification, in a contempt of court case, for contesting election to any public office, awarded by the High Court of Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Ex-Prime Minister of Azad Jammu Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, who was disqualified by Azad Jammu Kashmir High Court, had sought forgiveness from the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu Kashmir, through an appeal, in the contempt of court case.
Full bench of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu Kashmir headed by Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, Wednesday terminated the sentence awarded by the High Court of AJK in the contempt of Court proceeding to the former Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas.
The Supreme Court also disposed off the appeal against the disqualification of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas from the Azad Kashmir High Court, accepting his appeal against his sentence awarded by the AJK HC.
The apex court declared Sardar Tanveer Ilyas eligible to participate in the election after one month.
In April 2023, Azad Jammy Kashmir High Court had disqualified Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in a contempt of court proceeding, for two years period.
Following his disqualification on the High Court’ vrrdict, Tanveer Ilyas had to step down from the office of the Prime Ministership of Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Sardar Tanveer Ilyas had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the above decision of the High Court of AJK
Tanveer Ilyas had beg pardon from the court on the notice of contempt of court issued by the learned apex Court of AKK.
Then AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanvir Ilyas was issued contempt of court notices by the Supreme Court and the High Court simultaneously on the basis of his speech against the judges
