Syrian Embassy in Qatar Honors Top Achieving Syrian High School Students

Doha, Thursday, 17 October 2024 – The Syrian Embassy in Qatar, in collaboration with the Syrian Community Council, held a prestigious ceremony today to celebrate Syrian high school students who achieved outstanding results, scoring over 97% in their final exams. The event, hosted at the Embassy, gathered members of the Syrian community, educators, and diplomats to recognize and honor the accomplishments of these exceptional students.
The ceremony, led by Dr. Belal Tourkya, Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Qatar, celebrated the achievements of 32 Syrian students who excelled in their 2023-2024 high school graduation exams, making them the top students in Qatar. Among them, student Issa Al-Kilani achieved the highest score with a remarkable 100%, followed by Mazen Yamen Mazen Hammoud with 99.88%, and both Haya Mohammed Zidan and Owais Bashir Al-Amour from the Syrian School, scoring 99.75%.
Dr. Tourkya expressed his deep pride in the students’ accomplishments, highlighting how they have made the Syrian community proud despite the many challenges. He emphasized the significance of this achievement in light of the difficult circumstances faced by many Syrian students inside Syria and in refugee camps, where countless young people are deprived of their right to education. He stated:
“We are incredibly proud of our young students who have worked tirelessly to achieve such remarkable results. You represent the bright future of Syria, and your commitment to education is a testament to the resilience and strength of our nation. I am confident that you will play a vital role in building a better future, not only for Syria but also for Qatar, where you are contributing to the community and its growth.”
Dr. Tourkya also extended his heartfelt thanks to the State of Qatar, its people, and His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for providing Syrian students with the opportunity to pursue their education in a nurturing and supportive environment. He praised Qatar for its high-quality education system, its world-class facilities, and the exceptional Qatari educators who contribute to the success of both Qatari and resident students.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress,” Dr. Tourkya emphasized. “This achievement adds to the global success stories of Syrians in both academic and professional fields. It reflects the true spirit of the Syrian people and their ability to excel, even in the face of adversity. The Embassy will continue to support all Syrian students, with education remaining a top priority. We urge you to maintain your excellence, become ambassadors of your country, and lead the way for a brighter future for Syria.”
The event also featured remarks from Mr. Abdulsalam Fayyad, Chairman of the Syrian Community Council, who commended the students’ hard work and highlighted the pride that this achievement brings to the Syrian community in Qatar. He emphasized the importance of education as a cornerstone for development and expressed his gratitude to Qatar for its continuous support of Syrian students.
The students received certificates of recognition as well as material and symbolic rewards for their exceptional performance.
