MADRID, March 22 — Three climbers tragically lost their lives in a fall on Saturday in Moncayo National Park, located in northern Spain’s Aragon region, the Spanish Civil Guard confirmed.
An emergency call was received at around 14:00 local time (1300 GMT) reporting an accident in the dangerous area of “La Escupidera,” known for its hazardous conditions, especially during adverse weather. At the time of the incident, strong winds and snowfall were sweeping through the region.
Rescue teams from Huesca were immediately dispatched but had to proceed on foot due to the severe weather conditions. Upon reaching the scene, they found two climbers dead, and a third succumbed to injuries shortly after.
The victims are believed to have been part of a group that traveled from Madrid. Authorities have not yet released their identities but have noted the dangers posed by such treacherous terrains, particularly during harsh weather conditions.
This tragic accident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in mountaineering and the importance of considering weather conditions before undertaking such dangerous activities.
