A heated split has broken out between Donald Trump and longtime ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene just as Congress prepares to vote on the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s government files. Trump launched scathing social media attacks over the weekend, calling Greene “wacky” and denouncing her as a “traitor,” while pledging to support any Republican challenger against her in next year’s elections.
Greene, for her part, has sharply criticized Trump’s handling of the Epstein records and questioned whether he remains committed to his “America First” agenda. She joined with a small number of Republicans and Democrats to push for the Epstein Files Transparency Act, legislation that would force the Department of Justice to make all unclassified Epstein-related communications, documents, and investigation materials public.
The tension comes amid reports that House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to bring the bill to a vote as soon as this week, possibly as early as Tuesday. If passed, the legislation could mark a major step toward greater accountability on Epstein’s case.
Trump’s attacks mark a dramatic reversal for Greene, who has steadfastly supported him through numerous controversies — including the Capitol riot and allegations of conspiracy promotion. This public feud underscores the political risk for Trump in confronting one of his most fervent backers.
Political strategist Robert Moran interpreted Trump’s pressure on Greene as an effort to block the file release, arguing that the president “clearly does not want the Epstein files to be exposed.” But Moran also noted that many Trump voters support transparency, suggesting the demand for disclosure is not going away.
