Washington — Former President Donald Trump has endorsed the House Republicans’ budget proposal, favoring a single comprehensive bill over the Senate’s two-bill approach. He called on both chambers to pass the House plan to accelerate the reconciliation process and push forward his full agenda.
“We need both Chambers to pass the House Budget to ‘kickstart’ the Reconciliation process, and move all of our priorities to the concept of, ‘ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL,’” Trump wrote on Truth Social, emphasizing that it would “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
While praising Republicans in both chambers for their efforts, Trump stated that the Senate’s approach, led by Senator Lindsey Graham, would delay key priorities such as tax cuts. Senate Republicans favor a phased approach, focusing first on border security and defense spending while addressing tax extensions later. However, House Republicans argue that splitting the legislation increases the risk of failure, given their narrow majority.
Trump’s endorsement came as Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced plans to proceed with the Senate’s budget resolution this week. Thune, who was surprised by Trump’s post, noted that senators would discuss the matter further, including input from Vice President JD Vance.
The former president’s endorsement marks a return to direct involvement in budget negotiations after previously stepping back from the debate. His backing of a single-bill strategy may influence ongoing negotiations as Republicans work toward advancing their legislative agenda.
