Chicago, 1 August 2024 — Former President Donald Trump has ignited controversy by suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris chose to “turn Black” for political gain. Trump’s comments came during a contentious interaction with African American journalists at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago.
The 78-year-old former president accused Harris of initially identifying as Indian before “all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she became a Black person.” Harris, 59, has consistently identified as Black and is an alumna of a historically Black university.
“So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump questioned during the heated exchange, escalating his ongoing attacks against his Democratic rival.
