SHARM EL SHEIKH, October 14 — U.S. President Donald Trump concluded a whirlwind 24-hour diplomatic tour of the Middle East on Tuesday, hailing what he described as a “historic day” following the Gaza ceasefire deal that ended two years of devastating conflict.
The agreement, reached in Doha last week under U.S. mediation, resulted in a full cessation of combat operations in Gaza, the release of remaining Israeli hostages by Hamas, and the freeing of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. Thousands of displaced Palestinians have since begun returning to the ruins of their homes in northern Gaza amid a partial Israeli troop withdrawal.
In Tel Aviv, President Trump was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with full honors before addressing the Knesset, where he proclaimed “a new dawn of peace in the Middle East.” He also controversially urged Israel’s President Isaac Herzog to pardon Netanyahu, who faces ongoing corruption charges.
Later, in Sharm El Sheikh, Trump joined world leaders including Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el Sisi for the official signing ceremony, held under the banner “Peace in the Middle East.” Trump declared the event “a turning point in 3,000 years of history,” crediting his administration’s diplomacy for achieving “everlasting peace.”
Despite celebrations in Israel and Gaza, analysts warn that the truce remains fragile. Questions persist over the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF) and the long-term governance of Gaza.
Trump’s Middle East visit from Tel Aviv to Sharm El Sheikh marked both a diplomatic milestone and a reminder of the challenges ahead. As the U.S. president departed, he insisted, “The war is over, peace has finally begun.”
