In a speech delivered early Wednesday, Donald Trump thanked the American people for electing him as the 47th president of the United States, marking his return to the nation’s highest office after his first term from 2017 to 2021. “This is a magnificent victory for the American people,” Trump stated, promising to unite the country and “make America great again.”
Trump’s win over Democratic rival Vice President Kamala Harris ensures his place in history as only the second U.S. president to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland. “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump said, celebrating victories across the Senate and border security issues that were key parts of his campaign.
Pledging to secure the U.S. borders, Trump emphasized the need for legal immigration and maintaining a strong military. Reflecting on his first term, he reiterated, “We defeated ISIS in record time, and we had no wars. I’m working to stop wars, not start them.”
With the attendance of family, allies, and tech mogul Elon Musk, who endorsed Trump’s campaign, the former president emphasized unity. “It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us,” Trump declared. “We will make America safe, strong, prosperous, powerful, and free again.”
JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, echoed this sentiment, calling it “the greatest political comeback in U.S. history.” Trump’s new term promises a renewed focus on the country’s safety and prosperity.
