WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has announced plans to host a UFC championship bout on the White House lawn next year as part of the nation’s 250th Independence anniversary celebrations.
Speaking at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, Trump revealed the fight will be a high-profile professional event, expected to attract 20,000 to 25,000 spectators. “Does anybody watch UFC? We’re going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We’ve got a lot of land there,” he said to cheers from the crowd.
Trump, a long-time ally of UFC President Dana White, has frequently attended UFC events. The two share a decades-long relationship, dating back to 2001, when Trump hosted UFC fights at his Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City during the sport’s early struggles. White has since become a prominent supporter of Trump’s political career, describing him as a “fighter” and “the ultimate American badass” following an assassination attempt last year.
Following Trump’s remarks in Iowa, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the announcement on X, writing: “It’s going to be EPIC!”
The UFC fight will be one of several public events marking “America250,” a series of national celebrations across parks, battlefields, and historic sites in honor of the United States’ 250th year of independence on July 4, 2026.
Trump said the events will include both professional and amateur competitions, highlighting America’s heritage, strength, and national pride.
The announcement reflects Trump’s enduring connection to the UFC and his strategy of blending entertainment with patriotism as he eyes a potential return to the presidency.
