Trump’s Gaza takeover proposal faces Global rejection

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for the United States to “take over” the Gaza Strip and permanently relocate its Palestinian residents has been met with swift condemnation from allies and adversaries alike.
Speaking alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a White House news conference, Trump suggested redeveloping Gaza into a thriving economic hub, calling it “the Riviera of the Middle East.” He proposed U.S. control over the territory to clear war debris and establish new settlements for Palestinians outside Gaza.
The proposal was immediately rejected by key regional players. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its opposition to any forced displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing the need for reconstruction without relocation. Saudi Arabia also strongly dismissed Trump’s idea, reiterating its firm stance on Palestinian self-determination and condemning any efforts to annex or displace Palestinian communities.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the proposal, urging the United Nations to protect Palestinian rights and warning that such a move would violate international law. Hamas labeled Trump’s plan a “recipe for chaos,” accusing the U.S. of rewarding Israel despite its ongoing military campaign in Gaza.
The war, which began after Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people, has since resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, according to local health authorities. The conflict has devastated Gaza, displacing nearly 90% of its 2.3 million residents.
