Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called for an immediate initiation of a peace process in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war during his speech at the 27th MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, Australia) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. Fidan emphasized that both sides must participate in a comprehensive peace process without delay.
At the two-day conference, which began Thursday, Fidan addressed global crises including the conflict in Gaza, developments in Lebanon and Syria, and the ongoing humanitarian issues worldwide. He stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation to tackle these challenges.
Fidan reiterated Turkey’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s “territorial integrity and sovereignty” and highlighted Turkey’s commitment to diplomacy as the key to ending the war. He emphasized that Turkey is ready to assist in facilitating negotiations to achieve sustainable peace between the conflicting parties.
Regarding Gaza, Fidan noted that the recent ceasefire had allowed for temporary humanitarian relief but criticized Israel’s continued restrictions on aid access, which hindered full crisis resolution. He also expressed hope for further progress toward a two-state solution and called for a collective effort to address humanitarian needs in Gaza, Syria, and other areas in crisis.
Fidan concluded by reaffirming Turkey’s dedication to strengthening its ties within the MIKTA framework, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation with other member countries
