Ankara, March 16 (QNA) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of Turkish-American cooperation in lifting sanctions on Syria during a phone call today with US President Donald Trump. Erdogan underscored that removing these sanctions would contribute to restoring stability and facilitating the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.
According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, the two presidents discussed bilateral relations as well as several regional and international issues. Erdogan stressed the need to enhance consultations between Ankara and Washington on all matters of mutual concern.
Regarding the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, Erdogan expressed support for the initiative and “decisive steps” taken by the US president to end the conflict. He reiterated that Turkey has been advocating for a just and lasting peace since the outset of the war and remains committed to that goal.
The call comes nearly two weeks after President Trump proposed a one-month ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv reportedly agreed to the proposal during US-Ukrainian negotiations held last Tuesday in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
