ISTANBUL – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan firmly rejected all attempts to deny the Srebrenica genocide or glorify war criminals, asserting Türkiye’s respect for international court rulings.
In a video message marking the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, Erdogan paid tribute to the over 8,000 Bosniak victims and reaffirmed Ankara’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Erdogan condemned the denial of the genocide as a dangerous affront to justice and humanity. “Türkiye stands against all efforts to distort history and glorify those responsible for one of Europe’s darkest chapters,” he stated.
Drawing a parallel with current global injustices, Erdogan also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where he said the international community is again failing to act decisively. “Just as the world remained silent during Srebrenica, it is now turning a blind eye to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine,” he said, adding that the Israeli leadership would eventually face justice for the deaths of nearly 58,000 Palestinians.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also commemorated the anniversary, calling the massacre “a profound tragedy that continues to resonate in our collective conscience.” He emphasized the global responsibility to remember the atrocity and ensure it is never repeated.
Türkiye continues to stand in solidarity with Bosnia and Herzegovina and upholds its moral duty to confront denialism and advocate for justice in the face of atrocities, both past and present.
