ISTANBUL, October 28 (Anadolu Agency) – Türkiye has officially delivered its first domestically produced Altay main battle tanks to the Turkish Armed Forces, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced at the inauguration of the BMC Ankara Tank and New Generation Armored Vehicles Production Facility.
The Altay tank, developed and mass-produced by Turkish automaker BMC, represents a major milestone in Türkiye’s defense industry. Before deployment, the tanks underwent 35,000 kilometers of testing and 3,700 live-fire exercises, confirming their readiness for service.
President Erdogan said the new generation of Altay tanks, equipped with advanced defense and targeting systems, is designed to perform effectively under the toughest battlefield conditions.
He noted that the Ankara production facility spans 63,000 square meters and will produce eight Altay tanks and ten Altug armored vehicles per month. The president described the Altug as “a fortress of the battlefield,” reflecting Türkiye’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
“We continue to write a legend with our state-of-the-art land, air, and naval systems,” Erdogan said. “Türkiye is no longer a country that follows others—it is now a nation that others follow.”
