ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that a full investigation has been launched into the tragic plane crash involving a Libyan military delegation, describing the incident as deeply saddening.
Addressing the Justice and Development (AK) Party’s extended provincial heads meeting in Ankara on Wednesday, President Erdoğan conveyed Türkiye’s heartfelt condolences to the brotherly people of Libya, its armed forces, and the Libyan government. The crash claimed the lives of Libyan Army Chief General Mohamed Ali Al-Haddad, four members of his delegation, and three crew members.
President Erdoğan said that relevant Turkish ministries would keep the public informed about the developments and findings related to the incident.
The Falcon 50-type business jet crashed shortly after taking off from Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport, where it was en route to Tripoli, the Libyan capital. The wreckage was located approximately two kilometers south of Kesikkavak village in Ankara’s Haymana district.
Despite adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and fog, search and rescue operations continued throughout the night. Authorities are overseeing the response from a mobile coordination center established by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
