Türkiye reaffirms commitment to Gaza peace, regional stability

Ankara, Aug. 31 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated that Türkiye’s stance on Gaza remains clear and firmly rooted in humanity and human rights. Writing in China’s People’s Daily under the title “A Shared Path to Peace and Justice”, President Erdogan underlined that the world is facing crises of unprecedented scale, exposing the limits of the current international system in protecting innocent lives.
Citing Israel’s ongoing assault and occupation in Gaza as a stark example, Erdogan stressed that Türkiye continues efforts to ensure the protection of civilians, uninterrupted humanitarian aid, and the achievement of a lasting ceasefire. “While delivering aid on the ground, we also use diplomacy to push for peace and safeguard civilians,” he said.
Erdogan emphasized that lasting peace in the region requires the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. “Only then can a durable peace be achieved,” he stated.
Highlighting Türkiye’s proactive diplomacy, Erdogan recalled Ankara’s role in mediating the Black Sea Grain Initiative, facilitating humanitarian corridors, and hosting Ukraine-Russia talks. He stressed that Türkiye’s foreign policy is built on dialogue, trust, and the principle that “there are no winners in war and no losers in a fair peace.”
On the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin, where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, Erdogan said Türkiye views the platform as an opportunity to promote peace, justice, and inclusive global cooperation. He noted that Türkiye and China, two ancient civilizations, continue to strengthen their political, economic, and cultural ties on the basis of mutual respect and a win-win approach.
President Erdogan concluded by reaffirming Türkiye’s determination to shoulder global responsibility, expand humanitarian aid, and champion dialogue as the path to peace and stability.
