PARIS, Oct. 26 – French authorities have detained two suspects for questioning in connection with the recent high-profile theft at the Louvre Museum, marking a major step forward in the ongoing investigation, local media reported on Sunday.
According to reports by Le Parisien and Paris Match, one suspect was apprehended late Saturday night at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to board an international flight. The second suspect was arrested shortly afterward in the Seine-Saint-Denis suburb north of Paris. Both are being held on charges of organized robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The Paris Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrests in a statement early Sunday, noting that one of the detainees was intercepted just before leaving the country. Authorities have not disclosed the suspects’ identities as investigations continue.
Despite the arrests, the stolen items, eight pieces of French crown jewels taken from the Louvre last Sunday, have not yet been recovered, according to BFM TV. More than 100 investigators remain mobilized to locate the missing artifacts and identify the remaining members of the gang responsible for the daring museum heist.
