RIYADH, March 9: The United States has ordered the departure of non-emergency government employees and their family members from Saudi Arabia due to security concerns, according to a travel advisory issued by the U.S. Department of State on Sunday.
The latest directive updates an earlier advisory issued on March 3 that had permitted non-essential U.S. government personnel and their families to leave the Kingdom voluntarily in view of potential safety risks.
Under the revised order, the departure of non-essential staff has now been formally authorized as a precautionary measure amid ongoing regional security concerns.
The State Department also advised U.S. citizens currently in Saudi Arabia to remain alert and follow official guidance. Americans requiring assistance were urged to complete a crisis intake form to notify the U.S. Embassy or consulate of their situation.
U.S. officials said the measures were taken to ensure the safety and security of government personnel and citizens in the region.
