Senior negotiators from the United States and Ukraine have described recent talks in Miami, Florida, as productive and constructive, even as fighting continues to intensify on the ground in eastern Ukraine.
The three-day discussions on the Ukraine crisis brought together representatives from the United States, Ukraine, and several European countries. U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff said the talks focused on key documents, including further work on a proposed 20-point peace framework. He noted that particular attention was given to timelines and the order of future steps.
Ukraine’s lead negotiator Rustem Umerov said discussions were being held in a constructive and substantive manner, adding that Kyiv hopes for tangible progress and practical outcomes. Following the talks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for wider consultations with European partners and said Ukrainian and U.S. teams were moving forward at a steady pace.
Witkoff also referred to separate discussions between U.S. and Russian representatives in Florida, describing those meetings as constructive in advancing U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace initiative on Ukraine. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev later hinted at a possible future meeting in Moscow.
Despite the diplomatic engagement, the situation on the battlefield remains tense. Zelensky said Russia launched large numbers of drones, guided bombs, and missiles over the past week. Ukrainian officials also reported Russian troop movements and incidents in the eastern Sumy region.
