London, January 07 (QNA) – The UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer revealed Wednesday that British military plans are currently being prepared to determine the number of forces that would be deployed to Ukraine, should a peace agreement with Russia be reached.
Speaking before the UK Parliament, Starmer affirmed that he would brief the House on developments as the situation evolves, and if the deployment of forces under the signed declaration is decided, he would submit this matter to the House for a vote.
Starmer noted that the number of troops would be determined according to British military plans currently underway. He added that he spoke twice with US President Donald Trump regarding security guarantees for Ukraine during the Christmas period, assuring lawmakers that there is no scope to proceed with this matter without full discussion with the Americans.
On Tuesday in Paris, Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a declaration of intent that broadly outlines the deployment of forces should a peace deal be reached.
Starmer’s remarks follow a day after the United States announced support for a wide coalition of Kyiv’s allies, including the United Kingdom, pledging security guarantees to back Ukraine if Russia attacks again.
