Kyiv/Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that several draft documents were prepared following recent negotiations between Ukrainian and US officials, marking a notable step in diplomatic efforts to end the Russia–Ukraine war.
In a statement on social media platform X, Zelenskyy said he met with Ukraine’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, who briefed him on talks held with US representatives over the weekend. He said discussions with envoys linked to US President Donald Trump were productive and resulted in multiple draft texts.
“These documents include frameworks on security guarantees for Ukraine, post-war recovery, and a basic structure for ending this war,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the drafts align with Ukraine’s objective of achieving sustainable peace and preventing future conflict.
Zelenskyy stressed that each round of negotiations helps safeguard Ukraine’s national interests and reaffirmed Kyiv’s commitment to constructive diplomacy. He also expressed appreciation for continued European coordination and support.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized the importance of pairing diplomacy with sustained pressure on Russia and ongoing international support for Ukraine. He noted that Ukraine’s negotiating team has completed its initial work and returned from talks in the United States, while discussions between American and Russian representatives continue.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff earlier described meetings in Florida involving Ukrainian, American, and European officials as constructive, focusing on security guarantees, economic recovery, and a broader peace framework. Separate US–Russia talks were also held to advance a US-backed peace proposal.
The negotiations are part of a broader diplomatic process underway since November aimed at reaching a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
