UN Human Rights Council adopts Qatar’s Universal Periodic review results

Geneva, March 27 (QNA) – The UN Human Rights Council has adopted the results of Qatar’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) under Item 6 of the agenda for the council’s 58th session.
In her speech during the session, Acting Charge d’Affaires of Qatar’s Permanent Delegation to the United Nations in Geneva Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi emphasized that the State of Qatar places the protection and promotion of human rights at the forefront of its priorities, considering it a cornerstone of the nation’s comprehensive reform efforts.
She noted the State of Qatar’s collaboration with the council and its mechanisms, particularly the UPR process, as an essential complement to the country’s national and international efforts in fostering respect for human rights values and principles.
Al Suwaidi expressed gratitude for the constructive dialogue during Qatar’s fourth UPR on November 12, 2024, which provided an opportunity to share Qatar’s experience, vision, and efforts to fulfill its commitments and enhance human rights for all residents.
During the review, the State of Qatar received 317 recommendations, accepting 245 and taking note of 72.
The State’s stance on these recommendations was shaped by its commitments under international human rights agreements as well as its societal, cultural, and religious values.
Al Suwaidi highlighted the government’s strong political will to collaborate with the council, expressing optimism for continued cooperation.
Additionally, she reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to implementing the accepted recommendations in an objective and transparent manner, striving to enhance and protect human rights in line with the highest international standards.
Al Suwaidi extended thanks to the President of the Human Rights Council, all speakers who offered valuable inputs, and the nations that participated in Qatar’s UPR in a spirit of objectivity and constructive cooperation.
She also expressed appreciation to the Republic of Chile, the Republic of Maldives, and the Republic of the Sudan for their efforts as the troika facilitating Qatar’s UPR process
