Doha, May 1, 2025 – The Uttar Pradesh Welfare Association of Qatar (UPWA) marked International Labor Day with a lively event combining legal awareness, community engagement, and a friendly cricket match at Old Indian Ideal School, Doha.
More than 150 attendees, including laborers from the construction industry and their families, participated in the celebration. The program aimed to promote labor rights awareness and highlight the importance of sports and well-being among the workforce.
Mr. Harish Panday, First Secretary (Culture & Education) at the Indian Embassy, was the Chief Guest. He was joined by Mr. Khalid Abdul Rahman from the Ministry of Labor, along with guests of honor Obaid Tahir and Subramanya Hebbagelu.
UPWA Vice President Asif Khan opened the program by welcoming all attendees. Obaid and Subramanya shared insightful information on Qatar’s labor laws and worker rights. Mr. Panday delivered a powerful and motivational speech, emphasizing the need to conduct regular awareness programs. He also shared his personal experiences and encouraged stronger community engagement. Mr. Khalid assured participants of the Ministry’s full support for labor welfare.
Ziauddin Ahmed, President of UPWA, underscored the role of sports in promoting a balanced lifestyle and extended his gratitude to all dignitaries and participants.
The event was gracefully hosted by RJ Nazia of FM 107, who kept the audience engaged and energized with her lively anchoring throughout the program.
A friendly cricket match followed the formal proceedings. UPWA-C, led by Abdul Mohamim, won the toss and chose to bat, posting a total of 146 runs in the allotted 16 overs. UPWA-B, in reply, scored 105 runs, falling short by 41 runs. Mussaraf Ghani Khan and Kashif Habib introduced both teams to Mr. Khalid before the match.
The program concluded with the distribution of food packets to all participating laborers, reinforcing UPWA’s commitment to community support and worker appreciation.
