The Majlis-e-Frogh-e-Urdu Adab (MFUA), a celebrated literary platform for the Indian and Pakistani expatriate communities, recently hosted its 28th grand poetic session at the DPS-Modern Indian School Auditorium in Al Wakra. For 28 years, the Majlis has been a prominent stage for Urdu poets from around the globe to share their artistry in Qatar.
The event began with the launch of the Majlis’ magazine by Maqbool Habib Jafer Khalfan, a distinguished Qatari businessman and former general manager of Doha Bank and Qatar Development Bank, alongside Mohammad Atiq, Chairman of MFUA, and other board patrons. The launch ceremony witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of hundreds of Urdu literature enthusiasts.
In a special recognition of his lifelong contributions to Urdu in Qatar, Mohammad Atiq was honored with the prestigious ‘Loh-e-Sipas.’ This accolade was jointly presented by three prominent Urdu organizations: Anjuman-e-Mohibban-e-Urdu, represented by Aziz Nabeel and Nadeem Mahir, and Karwan-e-Urdu, represented by Mohammad Shahid Khan and Nishat Siddiqui. The ‘Tausifi Sanad’ was also awarded during the ceremony, where members of MFUA actively participated to celebrate the occasion.
In his inaugural speech, Atiq warmly welcomed the poets, audience, and local literary figures, while extending gratitude to the ministries of culture and interior for their continued support. Prof. Dr. Khurshid Rizvi, the president of the Mushaira, officially inaugurated the event, which lasted until 1:30 a.m., with the audience applauding every poet’s performance.
The Mushaira was presided over by Dr. Rizvi, a renowned poet, linguist, and intellectual, and skillfully moderated by Obaid Tahir, Secretary-General of MFUA. The evening featured local poets like Raqim Azmi, Shabber Ali, Farzana Safdar, and Raza Hussain Raza, while guest poets from India and Pakistan included Dr. Nadim Shaad, Salim Siddiqui, Asif Bilal, Abbas Tabish, Dr. Tahir Shaheer, Fareeha Naqvi, and Dr. Rizvi himself.
With over 800 Urdu lovers in attendance, the event reaffirmed the Mushaira’s importance in preserving and celebrating Urdu literature in Qatar.
