Altaf Hamid Rao. MIRPUR ( AJK): February 6: Raja Muzaffar, Acting Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF -Y) and the authorized representative of incarcerated Kashmiri leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, has formally appealed to former Prime Minister of Pakistan and PML – N Supremo Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to intervene to save Yasin Malik’s life, it was officially stated. In his letter, Raja Muzaffar recalled Nawaz Sharif’s historic role in promoting peace in South Asia through the Lahore Declaration, describing it as a milestone that offered genuine hope for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He noted that Mohammad Yasin Malik had welcomed the Lahore peace initiative and had actively proposed Kashmir-specific confidence-building measures rooted in dialogue and non-violence, Our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao Correspondent reports quoting message reaching and released to the media here on Friday. The letter, according to the message, expresses grave concern over the deteriorating legal and humanitarian situation faced by Yasin Malik in Indian custody. It states that the Indian government is allegedly reviving old and discredited cases on weak legal grounds, raising serious fears that he may be awarded the death penalty for political reasons. A key court hearing in the case is expected on 28 April, amid widespread apprehension regarding judicial impartiality and due process. Raja Muzaffar urged Nawaz Sharif to use his international standing, political influence, and moral authority to engage the Indian leadership and the global community in order to prevent what he described as a “grave miscarriage of justice.” “The release of Mohammad Yasin Malik would not only save an innocent life but would also revive the spirit of the Lahore Declaration and reaffirm faith in dialogue as the only viable path to peace in Kashmir,” the statement said. The JKLF (Yasin) reiterated that the people of Jammu & Kashmir continue to believe in a peaceful, negotiated, and dignified resolution of the conflict and called upon global leaders to act before it was too late, the message concluded.
