WASHINGTON: US Vice President J. D. Vance said Washington is making progress in diplomatic efforts related to the conflict with Iran, while maintaining a firm position against Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons.
Speaking on Wednesday, Vance said discussions are continuing through diplomatic channels and involve senior US officials and regional partners in the Arab world. He noted that President Donald Trump has set a clear “red line” on Iran’s nuclear programme.
According to Vance, the administration’s primary goal is to ensure that Iran can never develop a nuclear weapon. He stressed that the United States wants sufficient guarantees and protections in place before any broader agreement can move forward.
Vance described the negotiations as highly sensitive and said the Trump administration is currently focused on diplomacy despite ongoing regional tensions.
Earlier, President Trump said the fragile ceasefire with Iran remains in place but is on “massive life support.” He also indicated that Washington would continue diplomatic engagement with Tehran despite rejecting Iran’s latest peace proposal.
The latest remarks come amid continuing international concerns over regional stability, nuclear security, and the future of US-Iran relations
