TASHKENT, January 25. /Dunyo IA/– A delegation from the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan (ISRS) concluded a productive visit to Kuala Lumpur, engaging with Malaysian parliamentary and diplomatic leaders to strengthen bilateral ties.
During meetings with Tuan Wong Chen, Chairman of the International Relations Committee in Malaysia’s Parliament, and ISRS Director Eldor Aripov, both sides highlighted the growing momentum in Uzbek-Malaysian relations, particularly in inter-parliamentary cooperation. The establishment of a “Friendship Group” and recent high-level visits, including trips by Nur Jazlan Mohamad and Nuriddin Ismailov in 2024, were cited as evidence of this progress.
The discussions emphasized expanding inter-parliamentary collaboration, sharing legislative expertise, and convening joint committee meetings to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Talks with Dato Ahmad Azam, Malaysia’s Special Representative to Afghanistan, addressed regional security and Afghanistan’s socio-economic recovery. Uzbekistan’s efforts to integrate Afghanistan into interregional trade were commended, with both sides aligning on peaceful development initiatives. Plans for joint educational programs for Afghan citizens were also discussed.
The delegation also met Dato Ganeson Sivagurunathan, Director General of the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism. Discussions covered counter-terrorism, combating online extremism, youth education, and reintegration strategies. Both parties stressed the need for collective action to address modern security challenges.
These engagements reaffirm Uzbekistan and Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation across parliamentary, regional security, and educational domains.
