NEW YORK, February 6. /Dunyo IA/.– Uzbekistan and Somalia have officially established diplomatic relations following the signing of a Joint Communiqué in New York. The agreement was signed by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, and his Somali counterpart, Abukar Dahir Osman.
Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within international organizations, including the UN. They also pledged to explore opportunities for collaboration in political, trade, economic, and cultural spheres.
This marks a significant step in Uzbekistan’s outreach to African nations. Somalia becomes the 157th country to establish diplomatic ties with Uzbekistan. Notably, in 2024 alone, Uzbekistan has formalized relations with 12 nations across Africa, America, and Europe.
