MIRPUR (AJK) Veteran Kashmiri journalist, writer, and analyst Dr. Syed Shujaat Bukhari was solemnly remembered on his death anniversary on March 19, with tributes paid across both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The commemorations highlighted his lifetime dedication to the Kashmir cause, advocacy for the rights of the people, and efforts to promote freedom of expression in the disputed Himalayan region.
The main ceremony was held at his ancestral home in IIOJK, where he is laid to rest. Political leaders, journalists, and well-wishers gathered to honor his contributions to journalism and public discourse, recalling his role in shaping independent media in Kashmir and describing him as a voice of reason and dialogue.
Among those present were local leader Wagoora Irfan Hafeez, Hafiz Ayaz Gani, senior politician Suhail Bukhari, and his son Tamheed Bukhari.
Speakers highlighted Bukhari’s commitment to balanced reporting and his efforts to address issues of public importance. Participants offered fateha for the departed soul and laid floral wreaths at his grave, honoring his enduring legacy and continued guidance for young journalists in the region.
