MIRPUR ( AJK); Dec 17: Former President, Azad Jammu Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association, Advocate Najam-us-Saqib, Advocate, has strongly condemned the incident that took place in the Indian state of Bihar during an official ceremony, where Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen forcibly removing the veil of a Muslim woman, Ms Nusrat Parveen, during an appointment letter distribution event organised by the Ministry of AYUSH.

Talking to journalists at Kashmir Press Club Mirpur late Wednesday, he stated that the act was deeply offensive, unconstitutional and a blatant violation of human dignity and religious freedom.

He said that such conduct at a state-sponsored event clearly reflects the shrinking space for religious minorities in India. When a chief minister of a province displays such hostility towards the religious identity of Muslims, it raises serious concerns about the safety, dignity and fundamental rights of ordinary Muslim citizens. Incidents of this nature reaffirm the very rationale behind the struggle led by Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah for a separate homeland, where Muslims could live according to their faith, identity and cultural values without fear or discrimination.

Mr Javaid Najam-us-Saqib further stated that this development must also be viewed in the context of December 18, the death anniversary of renowned Kashmiri leader Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, whose lifelong struggle was dedicated to the political freedom, collective identity and right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas remains a symbol of principled resistance and constitutional struggle for Kashmiris seeking justice and dignity.

He emphasised that Pakistan’s creation was not merely a territorial division but the establishment of an ideological state founded on the principles of justice, equality and religious freedom.
