MIRPUR (AJK): November 2: In order to assess the loss and survey the damage caused by the landslide of several houses in the villages of Kakra Potha Bensi, located on the banks of the dam due to the changes in the ground due to the rise in the water level in the Mangla Dam, GM WAPDA Mangla Fakhar Jahan, his team and district administration officers visited the site on Sunday and inspected the damages caused by the heavy landslide, it was officially said.
A large gathering of the affected people were present on this occasion and the WAPDA team answered their questions, District Administration spokesman Javed Malik later told this Correspondent here Sunday.
According to the details, as told ny the District administration spokesman, GM WAPDA Fakhar Jahan, his team and Additional Deputy Commissioner General Mirpur Raja Umar Tariq Khan, along with his staff, inspected the affected site in detail at Potha Kakra Potha Bensi, in outskirt of Mirpur city.
The local people including affected people informed them of the details. Later, a large number of dignitaries of the area, local people and the affected people held a long meeting with them in which the people of the area expressed their strong reservations over the slow-pased poor performance of WAPDA.
Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Colonel (retd) Muhammad Maroof Khan, informed him about the incident that 27 houses have been razed to the ground and the land of the village has also been broken, while similar losses are also occurring in other nearby settlements, for which an immediate geological survey is required. He informed about all these losses and concerns and said that luxurious palaces worth crores of rupees have razed to the ground in the affected villages of Kakra Potha Bensi and the residents of the area have been made homeless, but no immediate relief has been provided by WAPDA, they alleged.
He underlined thatc the people of Mirpur had established immortal stories of sacrifices, including the construction and raising of the Mangla Dam, due to which Pakistan was moving towards a bright and agriculturally prosperous country. “WAPDA should realize these sacrifices of theMirpur population and should have immediately consoled the affect my option and people, but in this regard, the affected people informed the Commissioner Mirpur and Commissioner of Mangla Dam Affairs about their concerns time and agai. The Commissioner Mirpur Division showed great compassion, he,aged.
“We informed the WAPDA authorities about our losses, for which we are grateful to the Commissioner of the time, he said.
On this occasion, former Chairman District Council Lala Abdul Malik, Chairman Hamza Iqbal, District Councilor Tauqeer Najeeb, Councilor Waheed Rasib, Raja Hameed, Raja Mansoor Raja Amjad Hameed and other people also expressed their views
“WAPDA authorities and the district administration assured that the matter would be dealt with on an emergency basis, due to which the protest call was postponed for two weeks. WAPDA officials assured that the victims would not be mistreated and all possible compensation would be provided for their losses”, he concluded.
