BUSAN, South Korea – Oct. 30, 2025 – Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump affirmed their commitment on Thursday to strengthen bilateral relations and expand global cooperation, following a high-level meeting in South Korea.
Speaking about the meeting, Xi emphasized the need for China and the United States to remain partners and friends, navigating challenges and ensuring the steady advancement of their relationship. “In the face of winds, waves, and challenges, we should stay the right course and navigate through the complex landscape to ensure the steady sailing forward of the giant ship of China-U.S. relations,” Xi said.
The Chinese leader highlighted the resilience and promise of China’s economy, reporting a 5.2 percent growth in the first three quarters of 2025 and a 4 percent increase in import and export trade with the world. Xi noted that China’s long-term economic and social development plan aims to deepen reform, expand opening-up, promote higher-quality growth, and achieve common prosperity, creating opportunities for global cooperation, including with the United States.
Xi underscored that economic and trade relations should be the anchor of bilateral ties. He urged both countries’ teams to finalize follow-up measures swiftly, ensuring that common understandings are implemented effectively to build confidence in their economies and the global market. Dialogue, Xi stressed, is preferable to confrontation, and cooperation should guide the handling of issues such as illegal immigration, telecom fraud, anti-money laundering, artificial intelligence, and infectious disease responses.
Trump described China as a great country and Xi as a respected leader, emphasizing the long-standing friendship and collaboration between the two nations. “China is the biggest partner of the United States. With joint efforts, we can accomplish great things for the world and enjoy years of shared success,” Trump said.
The two leaders agreed to maintain regular interactions, enhance cooperation in economic, trade, and energy sectors, and encourage people-to-people exchanges. Both presidents also committed to supporting each other’s hosting of the 2026 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit, aiming to strengthen global economic growth and governance. Trump expressed his intention to visit China early next year and invited Xi to visit the United States.
The meeting signals a renewed dedication to constructive engagement and marks a significant step toward solidifying China-U.S. relations in a rapidly changing global landscape.
