Beijing, October 27, 2025 — The interactions and mutual respect between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have become the “most valuable strategic asset” in the development of China-US relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.
Wang made the remarks during a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of an expected meeting between the two leaders in South Korea. The White House confirmed that both presidents will attend the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Seoul.
According to a statement issued by China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang emphasized that both nations should “work in the same direction, make preparations for high-level interactions, and create favorable conditions for the stable development of bilateral ties.”
“President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump are both world-class leaders, and their consistent engagement and mutual respect have become the most valuable strategic asset in China-US relations,” Wang said.
He underlined that a stable, healthy, and sustainable partnership serves the long-term interests of both countries and contributes to global peace and prosperity.
Wang noted that despite recent challenges in trade relations, both sides have “clarified their positions, enhanced understanding, and reached a framework consensus” to resolve economic issues through dialogue and negotiation.
For his part, Rubio described US-China relations as “the most important bilateral relationship in the world,” expressing optimism that upcoming high-level engagements would send a “positive signal to the global community.”
Over the weekend, Chinese and US delegations concluded two days of trade discussions in Malaysia. Washington said the two sides had reached a “very substantial framework,” while Beijing described the outcome as a “preliminary consensus” toward strengthening economic cooperation.
