Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that a meeting with former US President Donald Trump is expected in the “near future,” as diplomatic efforts surrounding the war in Ukraine continue to gain momentum.
Zelensky confirmed that discussions are ongoing and that recent negotiations included a proposed 20-point peace plan. He did not provide a specific date for the meeting but emphasized that dialogue with international partners remains critical at this stage of the conflict.
The remarks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his stance that Moscow would not make concessions, again blaming Ukraine and Western countries for prolonging the war. Putin claimed Russia remains open to negotiations while insisting that responsibility for any breakdown in talks lies with Kyiv and its European supporters.
Zelensky, however, has repeatedly stressed that peace efforts must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Officials in Kyiv say consultations with US political leaders are part of broader diplomatic outreach aimed at strengthening international support and exploring possible paths toward ending the conflict.
Observers note that a potential meeting between Zelensky and Trump would attract global attention, given Trump’s influence on US foreign policy debates and the ongoing discussions around future peace initiatives.
