ADEN, Yemen, Oct. 21 — Yemen’s Houthi group said Wednesday it had launched a ballistic missile at a military target near Aden International Airport, triggering a powerful explosion. No casualties were immediately reported.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the missile targeted what he described as a Saudi military operations room at Badr military base, claiming the strike was direct and precise.
A local security official confirmed to Xinhua that a ballistic missile struck near the airport but said the target and extent of damage remained unclear.
The explosion shook nearby neighborhoods in Aden’s Khormaksar district, while smoke was seen rising near the airport, according to local residents and a Xinhua reporter.
The strike followed missile attacks near Aden airport and other locations earlier this month, including an attack on the Al-Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace compound that reportedly killed five people and injured 16, according to the Yemeni government.
Yemen has been mired in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
