Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Loses Main Power Line

rki.news
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has lost its main power supply line, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported Tuesday. The plant now relies solely on its backup power line for external electricity.
Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the agency has initiated discussions with both Russia and Ukraine to establish a local ceasefire that would allow repairs to the damaged 750kv Dniprovska line. An IAEA team is currently monitoring the situation on site.
Zaporizhzhia, under Russian control since March 2022, operates all six of its reactors in cold shutdown. The facility has faced repeated infrastructure attacks, with both Russia and Ukraine exchanging blame for incidents that threaten the plant’s safety.
The IAEA emphasized that securing the power line is critical to maintaining the plant’s stability and preventing potential hazards, highlighting the urgent need for cooperation from both parties to restore full external power.
