KIEV — September 6, 2026: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday that Ukraine wants to end the conflict with Russia but requires security guarantees.
“We are interested in bringing the end of the war closer. Peace is needed. Security guarantees are needed,” Zelensky said on X ahead of talks with US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Zelensky said Ukraine’s proposals were ready and stressed the need for coordinated, substantive and realistic efforts to advance the peace process.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Kiev earlier Sunday for their first visit to Ukraine after travelling to Moscow.
In a later post on X, Zelensky said the talks had begun and indicated that “changes began.”
The discussions come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a possible resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Ukraine has repeatedly stressed the importance of security guarantees as part of any future peace arrangement.
