Expatriates gathered to celebrate the Bengali New Year 1431. Hundreds of people assembled in the well-decorated hall of Rose Bangla Restaurant in Qatar to enjoy this traditional festival of Abhaman Bengal from Sunday evening.
The Bengali New Year 1431 and Pahela Baisakh were celebrated in Qatar by the initiative of Aakash Media Bhuvan.
The chief guest, Honorary Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, along with community leaders and prominent figures from various fields, graced the event. Notable attendees included senior journalist Yusuf Patwari Lincoln, General Secretary of Qatar Bangla Press Club Amin Bepari, Dolan Khan, Kabir Hossain, Salim Sarkar Jisan, Hasan Kabir Shaon, Akm Aminul Haque, Johnny, Bappi, Saddam, Feroze, Sohail Khan, Obaidul, among others.
The special highlight of the New Year ceremony was “panta hilsa” and a special dinner featuring select items. The honorable ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, Md. Nazrul Islam, inaugurated the event by partaking in “panta hilsa”.
In a statement, the ambassador expressed his joy, stating, “After a few years, I am delighted to celebrate New Year with ‘panta ilish’ in the land of exile.”
Commenting on the occasion, Omar Farooq Chowdhury remarked, “For a moment, I felt like I was back in Bangladesh after eating ‘panta ilish’. He commended such arrangements.
As part of the Pahela Baisakh festivities, a special raffle draw was conducted, offering prizes from Qatar’s popular Sign Gold and Diamonds.
Veteran journalists Ashraf Siddiqui and Haroon Rashid Qureshi were among the esteemed foreign guests present.
During his speech, the ambassador welcomed the attendees to the Aakash Media Bhuvan’s organization in Qatar. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s image and suggested that the Emir of Qatar’s visit to Bangladesh should be honored by all Qatar residents to uphold Bangladesh’s dignity. The ceremony concluded with an award distribution, dinner, and “panta ilish” feast.
