Consultant – Privacy, AI & Data Governance
During the International Data Privacy Day event in Doha, RKI spoke with Shaheer Ahmed Bakali, a privacy, AI, and data governance consultant. Born and raised in Doha, Bakali holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from Hamad Bin Khalifa University and a Master’s degree in Cyber Security from City University of London. He currently advises organizations on privacy compliance, data protection, and responsible AI implementation.
Bakali described the event as an important platform to emphasize the significance of personal data privacy for both individuals and organizations. He noted that companies processing personal data must comply with Qatar’s Personal Data Privacy Law (PDPL) and ensure that data is handled securely and responsibly.
“It is essential for organizations to process personal data according to the law and to respect individuals’ rights, including the right to access, rectify, object, and opt out,” he said. He stressed that awareness of these rights is crucial for building trust in the digital environment.
Addressing the widespread use of social media, Bakali advised individuals to avoid oversharing personal information online. “It is important to read carefully before accepting website terms and conditions,” he said, noting that many users automatically agree to policies without understanding what they are consenting to.
He also highlighted the growing risks posed by artificial intelligence technologies. Content shared online — including photos, videos, and personal details — can be reused or manipulated using AI tools to generate misleading or harmful material. “Whatever you share online can potentially be used against you,” he cautioned. “Being mindful about what you post protects not only you but also your family’s reputation.”
Bakali concluded by emphasizing that safeguarding privacy requires awareness, responsible online behavior, and careful control of personal information shared across digital platforms. He encouraged both organizations and individuals to take proactive steps toward privacy protection, highlighting that personal data security is a shared responsibility in the digital age.
