Doha, August 04 (QNA): Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari affirmed that the State of Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman and Pakistan continue efforts to facilitate engagement between Iran and the United States to bridge differences and support diplomatic solutions.
During the weekly Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefing, Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar remains committed to keeping dialogue channels open and supporting mediation efforts aimed at reaching a lasting solution to regional disputes. He noted that coordination is ongoing between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and regional partners to encourage de-escalation and create conditions for negotiations.
He stressed that returning to the negotiating table remains the best path to address current challenges, adding that mediators are working continuously to help resume direct dialogue between the concerned parties.
Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar does not set specific timelines for reaching agreements, as the success of any deal depends on the willingness and readiness of all sides involved. He added that Qatari communications are continuing at different leadership levels, but no final agreement has been reached so far.
Regarding navigation security in the Strait of Hormuz, Dr. Al Ansari reaffirmed Qatar’s position in support of freedom of navigation in accordance with international law. He stressed that the Strait should not be used as a means of political pressure or for achieving unilateral interests.
He said any future arrangements concerning the management of the Strait or navigation regulations must be reached through consensus among all concerned countries in the region. Ensuring uninterrupted trade flows and freedom of passage remains a shared international priority.
On Gaza, Dr. Al Ansari said the statement issued by mediators regarding Israeli violations aimed to hold the Israeli side responsible for implementing the ceasefire agreement. He noted that Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye and the United States continue coordinated efforts to ensure the swift implementation of the second phase of the agreement.
He said the international community has recognized the party obstructing implementation on the ground, adding that the transition to the next phase based on US President Donald Trump’s plan places responsibility on the Israeli side.
Dr. Al Ansari stated that Hamas has fulfilled its required commitments under the agreement, while there remain outstanding obligations from the Israeli side. He pointed to repeated delays in implementing the terms of the agreement since 2023 and said recent escalations and attacks on civilians have affected efforts to advance negotiations.
He stressed the importance of ending occupation and ensuring adherence to international law, calling on the international community to increase pressure for implementation of the agreement, reconstruction of Gaza and improvement of humanitarian conditions.
Regarding the recent phone conversation between Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Dr. Al Ansari said Qatar continues to keep international partners informed about regional developments.
He added that communications with the Russian side remain ongoing on various issues, including diplomatic efforts and developments in the region. Qatar, he said, remains focused on strengthening coordination with international partners to support peaceful solutions.
