Washington, January 06 (QNA) – Airlines in the United States have canceled more than 1,300 flights today due to a winter storm accompanied by snow and ice, with temperatures dropping to freezing levels in large areas across the country.
FlightAware, a website specializing in tracking aircraft movements, reported that a total of 1,306 flights were canceled, while another 414 flights were delayed.
Several airlines have issued warnings of the possibility of canceling or delaying their flights due to the storm.
The US Federal Aviation Administration warned last Friday that strong winds accompanied by snow and some frost could affect travel in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
This comes at a time when five US states have declared a state of emergency in anticipation of severe weather conditions, namely Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Virginia and Kentucky.
The US National Weather Service warned on Sunday that the current winter storm in the country would bring the heaviest snowfall in a decade.
