MIRPUR — Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, on Thursday urged newly enrolled lawyers to uphold professional ethics, integrity, and legal competence, stressing that the legal profession is a cornerstone of the justice system and essential for maintaining the dignity of courts.
He made these remarks while addressing the enrollment ceremony of newly admitted advocates at the Supreme Court of AJK. The event was attended by senior judges Justice Raza Ali Khan and Justice Chaudhry Khalid Yousaf, as well as Advocate General AJK Raja Nadeem Khan.
The Chief Justice said advocacy is not merely a profession but a form of public service grounded in compassion, tolerance, and commitment to justice. He noted that lawyers who adhere to legal principles and ethical standards serve as role models and strengthen the justice delivery system.
Describing the legal profession as sacred and service-oriented, he said its core purpose is to ensure justice, uphold the rule of law, and promote peace, tolerance, and human values in society.
He emphasized that a strong relationship between the Bench and the Bar is essential for an effective judicial system, adding that mutual trust, respect, and cooperation are necessary for timely justice.
Addressing young lawyers, Justice Khan said they are the future architects of the justice system and must prioritize justice above all else. He urged them to use their skills responsibly in safeguarding legal and constitutional values.
During the ceremony, enrollment certificates were distributed among newly admitted advocates, including Gul Idrees, Majid Ali, Muhammad Raza-ul-Haq, Niaz Ahmad Bashir, Syed Wajahat Kazmi, Asad Nawaz Jarral, Tahira Mahmood, Muhammad Jameel, Muhammad Ajmal, Junaid Malik, Asma Majeed, and Arsalan Javed.
The Chief Justice congratulated the lawyers and said humility, discipline, and ethical conduct lead to lasting success. He advised them never to compromise on professional values throughout their careers.
He also highlighted the historic role of lawyers in the Pakistan Movement and freedom struggle, noting their contributions remain a proud part of history. He said constitutional supremacy and rule of law are the foundations of a progressive society.
He further stressed that timely justice depends on lawyers performing their duties with honesty, patience, and dedication. The legal profession, he added, carries unique responsibilities as a tool of public service.
Justice Khan encouraged lawyers to remain lifelong learners, emphasizing patience, courtesy, and perseverance as key to success. He concluded by urging them to uphold the finest traditions of the legal profession and actively contribute to strengthening the justice system.
