MIRPUR (AJK), July 1: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has received a total of 28 appeals against the rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming July 27 General Elections 2026, according to an official statement issued Wednesday.
The Commission approved 10 appeals, rejected 16, while two were dismissed due to non-prosecution.
Among the approved appeals were those filed by Muhammad Khalid Awan, Hasnat Abbasi, Sajjad Abbasi, Zahid Yaseen, Noman Arif from Mirpur-III, Usman Kashir from Bagh-III, Shamshir-ul-Haq, Zain-ul-Abideen, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, and Syed Adnan Ali Shah. These appeals were related to various constituencies including Muzaffarabad-III, Muzaffarabad-V, and other regions.
The rejected appeals included petitions filed by Ghulam Rabbani, Muhammad Shahzad, Tanveer Hussain Khan, Abdul Rasheed Mirza, Aman Idrees, Atif Hussain, Anwar-ul-Haq, Zubair Ahmad, Zafar Iqbal, Zahoor Ahmad, Muhammad Bashir, Muhammad Faisal, Muhammad Saud Mukhtar, Tahir Khokhar, and Sajid Butt, among others from different constituencies across AJK.
Two appeals submitted by Tahir Khokhar were dismissed due to non-prosecution, including cases related to Khawaja Muhammad Usman and Wajahat Baig.
According to the Election Commission, all decisions were made after hearing the concerned parties and reviewing relevant records in accordance with the law.
The Commission said the process reflects transparency and adherence to electoral procedures ahead of the scheduled general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir
