MIRPUR (AJK), Aug 11: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 23 polling stations in two constituencies of Bagh district on August 15, official sources said Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by the AJK Election Commission, re-polling will be conducted at nine polling stations in LA-15 Central Bagh and 14 polling stations in LA-16 Eastern Bagh.
In LA-16 Eastern Bagh, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Mir Akbar Khan is currently leading by 3,225 votes. Around 7,500 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots at the 14 polling stations where re-polling has been ordered.
The polling stations include Seewar Kalo, Jogi Mora, Nazar Pur, Salyan, Kala Ban, Seri Kala, Seri, Malak and Kharl Maldiyalan, among others.
In LA-15 Central Bagh, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar is leading by 1,622 votes. Around 5,000 voters will be eligible to vote at the nine polling stations scheduled for re-polling.
The polling stations include Galla Malot, Kiyani, Hatala Pader, Gahl Chhaprian, Bari Bari and Makhdoom Kot, among others.
The re-polling has shifted the focus of political parties and candidates towards the August 15 exercise. Given the margins between the leading candidates and the number of voters yet to cast ballots, the re-polling could have a significant bearing on the final results in both constituencies.
