MIRPUR (AJK), July 30: The Chief Election Commissioner of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has taken notice of the alleged shifting of a Grade-19 Joint Director Industries post from Mirpur to Muzaffarabad by the AJK Commerce and Industries Department after the announcement of the election schedule.
Official sources said the Election Commission has issued a written notice to the AJK Secretary Finance and Secretary Industries and Commerce, directing them to provide a detailed explanation within two days regarding the reported transfer.
Sources stated that after the election schedule came into effect, the Industries and Commerce Department allegedly prepared a summary for shifting the Grade-19 Joint Director post from the Mirpur office to Muzaffarabad along with its budget allocation and the incumbent officer. The proposal was reportedly approved by relevant financial authorities and the government despite restrictions on transfers and postings during the election period.
The matter was brought to the attention of Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd.) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, who ordered issuance of the notice seeking clarification over the process.
Meanwhile, representatives of civil society, particularly the business community, urged the AJK Election Commission to revoke the approval if the transfer is found to violate the election code of conduct and ensure implementation of election restrictions.
