MIRPUR (AJK): June 5:General elections to 53-seat Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly, including 12-seats meant for Pakistan based Jammu Kashmir refugees, will be held on July 27 (next month) in line with the AJK interim constitution 1974 under the supervision of the civil armed forces and civil administration, it was officially said.

The 53 seats on the AJK Legislative Assembly, lower house of the AJK Parliament include 45 to be filled in through direct adult franchise bases and rest of 08 including 05 reserved for women and one each for ulema/mashaikh, technocrates and overseas Kashmiris to be filled in through secret ballot by the 45 directly elected members of the Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly, lower house of tge AJK parliament, our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports from Mirpur, quoting the AJK Election Commission authorotative sources.

According to an official notification issued
Raja Míuhammad Shakcel Khan) Secretary AJK Election Commission, the AJK Election Commission, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 36 (1) of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Elections Act 2020, is pleased to call upon the electorates of each constitueney of the Arad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, as approved by thc Delimitation Commission vide Notification No.EC/S/1 1708-32/2026 dated 14.05.2026 to elect a member from each such constituency, and for the said purpose, has also fixed the following days for the conduct of the General Elections and matters incidental thereto:-

Date for filing of nomination papers before the Returning Officer:
09.06.2026 to 19.06.2026 up to 4.00 p.m.

Serutiny of nomination papers.
20.06.2026 From 8.00 a.r onward

Publication of list by the Returning Onicer of validly nominated candidates.

Last date for filing of appeals before the Election Commission at its office House No. I Opposite AJ&K Legislative Assembly, New Secretariat Chatter, Muzaffarabad against rejection/ scceplance of nomination paners.
21.06.2026 to 24.06.2026 Before 2,00 p.m.

Hearing of appeals by the Election Commission in its office at Muzaffarabad.
26.06.2026 to 27.06.2026 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m.

Last date for decisions on the appeals
28.06.2026 to 29.06.2026

Last date for withdrawal of candidature.
30.06.2026 before 2.00 p.m.

Publication of the list of Contesting Candidates and Allotment of symbols.

Date of poll (25 days after publication of the list of contesting candidatcs): 27.07.2026 From 8.00.am to 5.00 p.m
