MIRPUR (AJK), April 29: Chief Justice of the High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain and Senior Judge Justice Syed Shahid Bahar visited the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT), the largest orphan rehabilitation and educational complex in South Asia, located in Mirpur.
During the visit, both judges highly appreciated the welfare, rehabilitation, and educational services being provided to orphaned and underprivileged children under the supervision of KORT founder Chaudhry Muhammad Akhtar.
Chief Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain said that KORT, which currently houses over 500 orphan and shelterless children, is not only a remarkable institution in Azad Jammu and Kashmir but also a unique model across Pakistan and South Asia. He praised its structured system of care, education, and upbringing, noting that such a high standard of service for vulnerable children is rarely seen elsewhere.
He added that the children at KORT are being provided excellent educational opportunities, ensuring they grow without any sense of deprivation or inferiority. He suggested that the KORT model should be expanded to other districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir so that more orphaned and needy children can benefit from similar welfare services with support from philanthropists.
Senior Judge Justice Syed Shahid Bahar described the visit as a highly impressive experience and said that KORT stands among the finest welfare institutions in the region dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned and vulnerable children.
He noted that the institution is likely the only one of its scale and nature in Azad Jammu and Kashmir providing such comprehensive services. Justice Bahar urged the government, philanthropists, and civil society organizations to extend full support to KORT so that its humanitarian mission can continue and expand further.
The visit concluded with appreciation for KORT’s continued contribution to social welfare, education, and child rehabilitation in the region.
