MIRPUR (AJK), June 4: Commissioner Azad Jammu and Kashmir Inland Revenue South Zone, Syed Anser Ali, said on Thursday that the department is fully committed to achieving the revenue targets for the current financial year 2025–26 within the stipulated deadline of June 30.
He was chairing an extraordinary review meeting at the Inland Revenue Department Mirpur to assess progress toward revenue collection targets and evaluate the overall performance of tax collection across the South Zone.
The meeting was attended by Circle Officers and District Officers from Mirpur Division, including officials from Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Chakswari, and Dadyal. During the briefing sessions, officers presented detailed reports on tax collection performance, pending assessments, ongoing audit cases, field operations, tax base expansion efforts, and progress toward assigned revenue targets.
The Commissioner was also briefed on developments related to large taxpayer cases, performance of withholding agents, and revenue generated from various economic sectors operating within the region.
Addressing participants, Syed Anser Ali emphasized that June represents the most critical phase of the fiscal year, during which departmental performance is closely evaluated and final revenue outcomes are determined. He directed officers to focus all efforts on maximizing collections and ensuring timely achievement of targets.
He instructed that pending assessments and audit cases be finalized on priority, while field inspections should be intensified. He further stressed the need for continuous engagement with major business establishments, commercial centers, industrial units, withholding agents, and other key sources of revenue to improve tax compliance and enhance collection efficiency.
The Commissioner underscored the importance of strict enforcement of tax laws, transparency, accountability, and professionalism in all operational matters, urging officers to fully utilize available resources to meet government-set targets.
Special attention was given to tobacco manufacturing units operating in the Mirpur Division, particularly in District Bhimber. The Commissioner issued strict instructions for continuous monitoring of the sector and directed the concerned Circle In-Charge Officer to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward violations.
He further ordered that any non-compliance be dealt with strict legal action and emphasized effective coordination with relevant institutions, including the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), IREN Squad, Punjab Excise Department, PERA Force, and FBR field formations in Sialkot and Gujrat, as well as other law enforcement agencies.
He noted that revenue collection is vital for national development, public welfare, and uninterrupted government service delivery. Any negligence in this responsibility, he warned, would not be tolerated.
To accelerate revenue collection during the final month of the fiscal year, several administrative measures have been introduced. The weekly Saturday holiday has been suspended through an official circular, ensuring full staff attendance and continuous operations during June.
A Special Recovery Wing has also been established to strengthen recovery efforts and has formally begun operations in accordance with departmental rules and procedures.
In addition, recommendations have been forwarded to the Central Board of Revenue for issuing notifications under Section 40B and Section 45(2) to enhance monitoring mechanisms for cigarette manufacturing units.
As part of tax base expansion efforts, instructions have been issued to bring various sectors into the tax net, including marriage halls, marquees, stone crushers, automobile dealerships, luxury vehicle service providers, and other potential revenue sources.
Field formations have also been tasked with integrating these businesses into the Point of Sale (POS) invoicing system to ensure compliance with tax laws.
Concluding the meeting, Syed Anser Ali appreciated the performance of officers so far and expressed confidence that through teamwork, effective planning, and sustained efforts, all revenue targets for the South Zone Mirpur Division would be achieved by June 30, 2026, contributing significantly to the Inland Revenue Department’s overall performance.
