MIRPUR (AJK), Feb. 23 — Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has emphasized that the delivery of advanced digital facilities remains a top priority of his government, aiming to modernize the region and integrate it into the global digital economy.
In a message released from the federal metropolis, PM Rathore announced that 5G services will be launched across Azad Kashmir from March 10, with trials beginning shortly. A formal policy letter for the rollout has already been issued. The prime minister described the launch as a historic milestone that will usher in high-speed internet, modern education platforms, e-health services, e-governance, and a thriving digital economy.
“This technology will boost business activities and create job opportunities for our youth in the IT sector,” he said, noting that the initiative will enable local talent to connect directly with international markets. He stressed that every city, town, and village should be an equal participant in the region’s digital development journey.
To achieve these goals, the government plans to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure to ensure high-speed internet reaches even remote areas. Young people will be provided with technology education and training to make them effective contributors to a modern economy.
PM Rathore expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, particularly the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, for their support in this landmark initiative. He also congratulated Chief Secretary Khushhal Khan, Secretary Information Technology Rashid Hanif, and their teams for their dedicated efforts.
Recognizing the importance of the telecom sector, the government has abolished Right of Way charges and introduced a one-window facility to encourage investment and foster a competitive environment for telecom operators throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir.
The prime minister concluded that the 5G rollout will transform Azad Kashmir into a modern, digital, and self-reliant state, positioning the region as a model for technological advancement in the country.
