MIRPUR (AJK), April 28: Inspector General of Police Azad Jammu and Kashmir Captain (Retd) Liaquat Ali Malik has stated that the AJK Police has no affiliation with any political party, religious group, or sect, and will not allow any influence in postings or transfers across districts.
He reiterated that the police force will remain fully impartial to ensure free, fair, and transparent general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He made these remarks during his visit to Mirpur, where he met delegations from the District Council, Municipal Committee, lawyers, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, traders’ associations, media representatives, retired police officers, employees, and civil society members. He also addressed local dignitaries at Mangla Police Station.
On arrival at the DIG Office Mirpur, he was received by DIG Range Mirpur Kamran Ali Mughal, SSP Khurram Iqbal, police personnel, and civil society representatives. A smart police contingent presented a guard of honour.
The IGP said there is no political interference in the police system, adding that his mission is to protect lives and property while upholding the dignity of the force. He highlighted ongoing reforms including Counter Terrorism Department strengthening, Elite Force establishment, Safe City projects in major cities, and improved welfare facilities such as medical treatment in CMH, education in APS, and CSD access for police families. He further stated that these reforms are aimed at modernizing policing, improving response capacity, and enhancing public trust in law enforcement institutions across Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He announced that a women police station will soon be established in Mirpur and confirmed efforts to increase manpower and resources. He said the AJK Police belongs to the state and its people.
The IGP further stated that no recommendation is required for registering cases and no complaint will be left pending. He stressed respect for visitors and strong coordination between police and media, noting that constructive criticism is welcomed.
Earlier, he inaugurated the SHO residence at Mangla Police Station and laid the foundation stone of a mosque within the premises. He also inspected the reception office and reviewed crime records, investigation progress, and cases against proclaimed offenders, issuing operational instructions.
